People & Emotions
Recognizing emotions in others and empathy are key social skills most children on the spectrum struggle with. This often stems from the inability to recognize basic emotions. Our flashcards and games start with very basic facial expressions: happy, sad, angry, surprised, and disgusted. These expressions can be recognized by simply looking at the position of the eyes, nose, mouth, and eyebrows. We also carry more subtle expression cards and games that can help you explore more nuanced emotions such as tired, bored, irritated and so on. Teaching these expressions move the student beyond just looking at the face to looking at someone's facial expressions within the context of a specific situation.
