My 8 year old chews up his feet, hands and clothes. Having something big like this is good, but the chew rings are a little hard. Something a little softer would be better. He loves the toy, though.

I gave your chewy monkey a neutral review not because of the item. My 22 month old grandson who will be evaluated soon for autism, didn't want the chewy. He chews on plastic, erasers, or anything that can fit in his mouth. He rather his pacifier. My daughter wants him off the pacifier however that is the only that will calm him while he is having a meltdown.

My son has a Down syndrome and autism and has a lot of sensory needs. We have several of the "monkeys" as this toy has quickly become one of my son's must have sensory toys. He is very oral and needs to bite and he likes to twirl. This toy helps with both and he constantly has it in his hands. He loves it. He is only allowed to have his monkey at home but it the first toy he looks for when he gets up in the morning and the last one we take from him when he goes to bed.

I purchased these two items for my 2-1/2 year old grandson thinking it would be better to chew on these instead of dirt, mulch, leaves, etc. Toys were way to large for him, too babyish, he had no interest.

More than expected!, September 17, 2012

We expected something reasonable from NAR for our 3-year-old to chew on (she keeps telling us she likes to bite!). For this price, we did NOT expect a Melissa and Doug product - a brand name we have come to trust. She loves her monkey, and it's bigger than you might guess from the picture - it would basically stretch fully across an 8.5x11 piece of paper. VERY satisfied with this purchase. Would HIGHLY recommend to others.
