Explore Common Feelings with this Exceptional Book
Product Details
Focus on Feelings is a collection of photo-illustrated lessons that help adolescents and young adults recognize, and understand, the way people are likely to feel in a variety of life situations. The lessons include photo-illustrated stories, with main characters of all ages and ethnicities.
Each of the 19 lessons opens with a title and text to introduce the story, followed by a symbol-supported dictionary of emotions page. Every page of the four-page story is a new scene, depicted with color photographs and text to illustrate the situation. Each story page also features a multiple-choice How do I feel? question which requires the student to correctly identify, by facial expression, the characters likely response. Following the story are two pages of symbol-supported review material and activities.
The book pages are provided as a printable PDF file on a companion CD, plus a Classroom License that lets you print stories for each student. Also on the CD are JPEG versions of the photos and illustrations of facial expressions appearing in the book. These can be used for worksheets, flashcards, or to illustrate the students own stories.
The Focus on Feelings eReader Software uses Attainment's eReader software which reads the stories aloud to students with professional narration. Text is highlighted word by word, line by line, or by complete sentence. Graphics are plentiful, contemporary and age-appropriate. A test at the end of each story provides speech support and an optional hint feature that directs students to the page that addresses each question. Students can access the software by mouse, touch screen, IntelliKeys or single switch. A unified management system helps the teacher quickly review or print out student performance data. Teachers can determine reading lists and set options that best suit each student's learning style. Choose word-by-word or natural speech narration, select the text highlighting approach and assign tests.
