Helping children with Aspergers understand themselves and their diagnosis is critical for self esteem, independence and relationship building. Different is not bad, it's just different. Using this workbook you can help children understand that people with Aspergers often have "another way of thinking and being."

In chapter one both child and parent or teacher will learn how to use the workbook. Each chapter has two parts, the first part is designed for the child to fill out, the second part contains helpful tips and resources for parents and teachers. The workbook covers the following areas:
  • Ways of thinking: special interests, details, styles of learning, perfection, routines, dealing with changes and schedules.
  • Sensory Experience: the five senses, loud noises, touching, tasting, pain, smelling, seeing and movement.
  • Artistic Talent: drawing, music, writing, drama, mechanical ability and computers.
  • Understanding: eye contact, body language, misunderstanding people, subtle social cues and more.
  • Thoughts: what are thoughts, who has them, hopes, fears, imagination, who knows my thoughts, other people's thoughts.
  • Communication: process of creating sentences, sentence starters, making sure someone is listening, who to communicate with and much more. (This is the longest chapter!)
  • School: knowing what will happen, being prepared, working at school, working at home, being organized, knowing what is important, handwriting, computers, free time and much much more!

We love this workbook because it is a tangible tool that can help children with Aspergers understand themselves in a positive way. Also available in Spanish.
